You CAN donate if…
- Aged 18 – 65 years and generally healthy
- Weigh 50 kg (110 lbs) or more
- Haemoglobin ≥ 12.5 g/dL (women) / 13.0 g/dL (men)
- At least 90 days (men) / 120 days (women) since last whole-blood donation
- Normal pulse, BP, and temperature on the day
You should NOT donate if…
- Pregnant, breastfeeding, or gave birth within 6 months
- Tattoo, piercing, or major surgery in the last 6 months
- On antibiotics, blood thinners, or isotretinoin
- HIV, hepatitis B/C, uncontrolled diabetes, or heart disease
- Fever, cold, or flu in the last 7 days
How donation works
Step 1
Registration
Fill a short health questionnaire and show a valid ID.
Step 2
Screening
Quick check of BP, pulse, temperature, and haemoglobin.
Step 3
Donation
The actual draw takes only 8–10 minutes. 350–450 ml is collected.
Step 4
Refreshments
Rest 10–15 min with juice and a light snack. You are done!
Before you donate
- Sleep well the night before (7–8 hrs)
- Eat an iron-rich meal 2–3 hrs prior
- Drink extra water; avoid alcohol 24 hrs before
- Do not donate on an empty stomach
After donation
- Rest for 10–15 min; keep the bandage on 4–6 hrs
- Drink plenty of fluids for the next 24 hrs
- No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 12 hrs
- Eat iron-rich foods (spinach, lentils, red meat)
